Pen and Ink Drawing
Pen and ink drawing of natural objects on a 36”x48” paper. A key aspect of this drawing isto explore tonal contrast by cross hatching from ‘darkest black’ to ‘brightest white’ within the same drawing and demonstrate how shadows and lights inherent to this technique build a form.

Film Noir Self -Portrait
This is a self portrait drawing done on 36”x48” paper. Through examining characteristics of film noir films and its dynamic, dramatic period, I tried to capture the soul of the film noir period. Relying on the lighting, setting, and facial expression, I aimed to portray my version of film noir, providing theatrical plot through implanting my own representation into the composition. I depict smooth shadow and highlight on my skin with charcoal and tried to put layers of tone using conte over and over until paper held as much tone as possible, creating an intense texture that evokes the “film noir” feeling.
