Free Jazz on Paper – Poster design for a live performance with London musicians Colin Webster and Andrew Lisle, accompanied in a trio by Anna Kaluza.
The Berlin based radio show PATTERN DISSECTION organises and presents concerts of improvised nature by bringing together a variety of international musicians to share a stage in Berlin. For their first gig, saxophonist Colin Webster and drummer Andrew Lisle were visiting – a London based duo whose virtuosity and immediacy quickly establishes them on the European avant garde scene. Anna Kaluza, a versatile participant in Berlin’s improvisational landscape, complemented them to a newly formed trio with a second saxophone.

The design approach was found in the graphic notation as a visual score. The poster’s subject as a musical shape interprets the complex rhythmic structures and hypnotic sounds of Free Jazz and tracks the moment of the music. Analogue processes like the hand-drawn »acoustic graphic« and the manual screen print play in important role.
