Bristol South CC

The club approached me to redesign their kit for the 120 year anniversary. The final design has cues to the history of the club executed with a modern approach. The new design has helped to attract a significant intake of new, younger club members.

The first port of call was redrawing the club crest to bring it up to date...

Supporting logos
As the club crest contains a lot of detail it is not suitable for some applications such as embroidery and can become illegible at small sizes. I created the supporting lock ups for when it was not suitable to use the club crest, for example as social media avatars.

The Kit
The final design references the bold yet simple colour application from vintage club kits while the typography is a blend of old and new. The addition of a single black star references a time when a group of rebel club members covered their race jersey's in black stars.

Photography
While researching the project I was given a set of old club images where riders were photographed on their bike, indoors, in race kit and position while being held by another club member in their Sunday best. The images were all set with a backdrop of the clubs trophy collection. To celebrate the anniversary I simply had to recreate these shots!

Using the clubs meeting room at a local pub and rounding up as many club members and trophies as possible I collaborated with photographer, Paddy Richardson to art direct the following shots.

Guidelines
From the literature the club sent me as part of the research process it was evident that with so many people volunteering their time to help promote the club brand consistency was not high on the agenda. To help the committee out I created a small set of brand guidelines.
