Jamie Oliver and Chris Bianco asked Martin Brudnizki Design Studio to work with them on their new Union Jacks restaurant in London’s grade II listed Covent Garden Market. The design for Union Jacks was directed by their brand concept which is young, cool and quintessentially British. Drawing inspiration from retro 50’s cafes and light hearted vintage design, the materials used in the project included vintage school chairs, reclaimed barn oak flooring, coloured laminate table tops, custom made heated leather banquettes and tubular steel industrial stools. The restaurant’s fusion flatbread pizzas are a strong focus and are prepared and cooked in an exposed kitchen at the centre of the dining area. The colour palette was kept fresh and playful with ice cream colours like pistachio and strawberry while rustic worn finishes ensured the design was in keeping with the architecture of the historic market.
