My concept is recalling the physical form of the site in the past and revealing and concealing the forces that led to the transformation of that form through time. Forces are separated into two categories; manmade forces and forces done by nature The man made forces like the excavation of the upper top of the mountain to create a flat site affected the site extensively. This excavation would not have happened without the technology that changed the world and allowed us to enter a modernized era. On the other hand forces done by nature are basically the forces done by the wind that led to that to the change of the form of the mountain through time. I decided to concentrate my design on the journey one will experience through the site. One will be faced with two kinds of experiences, those that occur suddenly and those that change gradually. The moment people approach the site, a sudden transformation will occur, the rocky mountains will suddenly be covered with trees that conceal the views that the person was seeing while driving towards the top of Jabal hafeet, these trees direct the person to the grand entrance that creates an axes separating the site into two zones, working zone which is public and is located towards the west and a living zone which is private and is located towards the east. The position of these two zones is due to the different views that the site has. After crossing the grand entrance the trees will start revealing the views that are surrounding the site by creating channels that are parallel to the wind direction. No cars will enter the living zones to create a friendlier neighbourhood where children can run and play safely and so that one will walk or use his or her bike and experience the natural cool windy weather in the site. I related my public spaces to the local building traditions. Each building type has its own public space all relate back to the way traditional public spaces are designed. In my small town houses one needs to walk through narrow hall ways that open up to a large public space which relates to the traditional ally spaces that open up to a huge courtyard. In my big house units, the units rap around an intimate courtyard shared among the users which resemble the courtyard design in UAE. I created a Micro Hybrid that reflects all these architectural principles. My micro hybrid is very horizontal and celebrates two axes very strongly the north axes and the north east axes that is perpendicular to the wind direction. I used materials such as clear acrylic that is layered in a manner that repeats the original form of the mountain to first emphasize the importance of transparency in my design and second to touch upon my main concept of recalling a memory. I explored different materials such as rubber, resin, and concrete. Concrete was used in areas that have dense public spaces. It seems like the concrete is floating which reflect on the architectural typology that I have used in my units. They all have a minimal affect on the ground and one can see the topography of the mountain continuing underneath the units.
