Proposal for a Theatre Rendition

Gabriel Garcia Marquez's "The Handsomest Drowned Man in the World" is a story of the change of spirit an entire village goes through upon encountering a dead body of a huge, handsome drowned stranger.
Our brief was to illustrate this using the principles of Impressionism. We chose theatre as our medium, and came up with a means of conveying the mood of the play.
We proposed that the auditorium setting be an amphitheatre, with an elliptical stage, consisting of multiple levels, used to deal with the principal locations used in the story, and the backdrop will be semi-elliptical and gradually morphing textures created on the screen, to create the various effects used throughout the play. The lower levels of the stage and the flooring of the auditorium by extension will be covered in sand, to create the feeling of a coast. The sand will be appropriately moulded and textured to hint at the sea.

We also came up with a poster for the performance, made using impasto, an impressionist technique, and a fictional production house , Kya Degas (a play on the name of Edgar Degas, an Impressionist master).
