The Musical Creation Centre is my final degree project at the Universidad Politécnica de Valencia. The building’s functional programme encompasses rehearsal rooms for music bands, recording booths, musical teaching rooms, two small concert halls, and supplementary areas such as a cafeteria and a musical instruments shop. Additionally, the centre includes a small number of apartments for the teachers, students and musicians’ use, if they do not reside in Valencia.
The plot is located in a bordering new avenue which leads to the city’s southern exit. This area has not been very urbanized.
21.000 square meters of building space cover an area of 8.000m2 in the north side of a 31.000m2 plot. In that way, the building opens to the south, taking benefit of the sun exposure and of a big wooded park located in the southern area, which is also planned. One of the goals is to connect both sides of the avenue, which are this new project and the city green belt, composed of a wide area of fertile plains.
The other goal of the project is to promote the social and cultural activity in a neighbourhood full of empty plots. Despite there is an important lack of urban life in this area, it is worth mentioning that there is a conservatory under construction, which offers the necessary complement in order to consolidate the music cultural activity and revitalise the neighbourhood.
