My process as a self-taught artist
From December 2016 to present
*Note: this is not an exhausted list of pictures that I drew. These are the ones that are available in my phone as I posted them on my Instagram account.
Some background: I drew a lot when I was a kid, but in manga style. Any artist I encountered influenced their drawing to me. I stopped drawing when I entered college for various reasons. This first picture was the first one I drew seriously in years. I was pretty proud of it at that time.
From the third one onward is my attempting to draw again. To be honest, I never took class to learn about the foundations in human anatomy. I was always frustrated with how my proportions turned out. Most of my drawings never looked like the pictures I used as references.
As you can see here, most of the proportions are weirdly drawn. I didn't want stylized drawings at all. However, they all came out like manga/manhwa-influenced.

Regardless, I'm proud of these drawings and I thought it was pretty cool of me to be able to draw like this (since I cannot draw in this style again).
I could say that this is my first ever realistic drawing of a person. Although now that I took another glance, there are many mistakes in this drawing.
This is when I finally start to learn human anatomy through online classes.
I also incorporate with some live drawing whenever I am outside. This was done when I attended a seminar. My friends said that they could recognize a lot of people through this and nothing could make me happier than hearing that.
The last four are the most recent attempts (since September). I still don't know how to draw hair and clothes, but I am content with how the faces turned out.

I still have a lot to learn but I am posting this as a reminder of how I have improved and to not feel discouraged when I cannot draw something.

If you enjoy this, please consider following me on Instagram.

Thank you for reading.
Happy Sunday!
