An exhibit curated by the legendary Japanese Artist, Takashi Murakami of 6 (mainly) independant Footwear Designers/Innovators, the Sneaker For Breakfast event took place in Long Beach, California at ComplexCon on the 3rd & 4th of November.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The group consisted of, Salehe Bembury, Suzanne Oude Hengel, Helen Kirkum, Mathieu Hagelaars, David Mawdsley and myself. Each designer was tasked with creating their own ultimate version of a sneaker.

My concept was inspired by Takashi's Dobtopus sculptures each of the tentacle's were incorporated into the sneakers fastenening system, with the cord wrapping around the ankle/knitted bootie, weaving through the removable cover and being closed off by a toggle, adorned with one of Takashi's infamous Jelly Fish eyes.
During ComplexCon, each shoe was available via a silent Ebay auction, with these ending up reaching a top bid of $17,100.00 (the proceeds going to XQ America).
A big thank you to everyone that was instrumental in bringing this concept to life (GIC/VF, Alex Dardinski, Jay Steere, Linda Lai).
