Radiant Beauty
Life became bleak, dark, pointless. It has lost all hope, joy, aspiration. It seems impossible to remember if life has ever possessed any color and vibrance. Everything has lost its color, and all the possible varying shades of gray between solid black and white. The eyes can only see the razor-sharp edges of two extremes, black, white, and nothing more. An inexplicable inability to recognize and be able to appreciate any beauty in life engulfs existence. Consciousness knows only the pain of a tortured soul.
Now, at the point of eliminating consciousness from the equation, two strangers stop to record the last selfish act of a desperate person. They have chosen not to become involved in a seemingly inevitable loss in a battle with death. Standing back, emotionally removing themselves from a human being slowly sinking in the quicksand of a bottomless pit, posting to social media just seems more important, interesting, and fulfilling.
Then in the distant entrance stands a woman. Suddenly, an inexorable rush of positively thrilling emotion pours in through the eyes and completely permeates the soul! Subtle shades of gray return to fill in the barren spaces between a solid black and white vision of life! Quickly innumerable colors overwhelm the psyche! Darkness, hopelessness, and despair have been relegated to a distant, distasteful thought, are washed away in a flood of radiant beauty!
Unconsciously the right foot steps down from the hangman’s platform to the rung of the ladder just below. Will the left foot follow the right foot in a choice of rejecting self-murder and a choice to reengage life?
