Diabetes Australia Social Campaign Graphic Design

Introduction

This project was aimed towards a campaign called “280 a day” organised by Diabetes Australia. The target of this campaign is to raise awareness and understanding of diabetes among people aged between 10-year-old and 15-year-old. The design package includes a brochure, posters and a series of social media design.

Challenge

Complex concepts like medicine are boring and hard to understand for most children. Forcing children at earlier ages to learn that knowledge is likely counterproductive.

Solution

The solution was to inspire children to get to know diabetes in a creative and fun way. Clientele being young people, the idea was to combine a sense of humour with afflicting expression, at the same time portraying the serious damages which diabetes can render. The use of hand-drawn caricatures with colourful composition was done to attract audiences attention.

Mood Board

Design Style

The inspiration for design is taken from the influence of diabetes on human health. By combining the individual letter of the word “DIABETES” with different complications of the disease. Each character for example represents one compilation like D is “Mental Health”, B is “Kidney”.

Instead of choosing the medical blue as the dominant colour of the whole campaign, I chose five different colour to avoid the clinical design style based on the target audience.
