4. Alternating Figure/ Ground

The object of this project was to explore positive/negative shapes and figure/ground meaning in a composition. I become familiar with the visual characteristics that achieve a figure/ground relationships. I was also able to analyze the shape components of a common object, studying visual qualities suitable for a figure/ground composition and pattern development. This is the link to my Dropmark where you can access all my work in progress along with my thought process.
1. Unit Form: This is the unit form that is the base to all my designs. Alternating Figure Ground is achieved when there is a near equal visual weight of figure (object) compared to the ground (background).

2. Pattern: This is one of my patterns displayed in black and white.

3. Color Patterns: These are my three final patterns. I made all three patterns using the same unit form above and also incorporating the same color scheme throughout the project.

4. Mockup Design: This is a display of what my pattern would look like displayed on a shirt.
