Fisher-Price: Reflect Smart Connect

Research
Problems the product had to solve

Use of caps : Caps open the live and neutral pins and in turn make the product more unsafe
- Layout - Fitting multiple large adapters in at the same time (Fisher-Price adapters)
Ideation
Analyses of Smart Connect products
Shape Exploration
Concept 1: Standard layout - user habits
Concept 2: Surfaces at various angles to avoid overlapping
Operation Concept: Reflective Sensing
It was very important to find a valuable solution to the safety concerns of multi plugs. The idea is that the plug's idle state is off. This ensures no flow of current to the plugs and appliances. A reflective sensor detects when a reflective material (live and neutral pins) is detected. The plug will only supply current to a port if both pins are reflective. With standard safety mechanisms incorporated into the design this will ensure safety of children and parents.

The device will also be connected to the Fisher-Price mobile app. The user will be notified if any foreign objects are detected and can control the product remotely.
