"Το Φαγητό" Identity & Promotional Material

"ΤΟ ΦΑΓΗΤΟ" (transl. Food) is a theatrical play, based on the text by the awarded greek poet Maria Laina, and brought to life by director and actor Dimitris Liolios.

As the director notes, "the play is an open dialogue for what we define as food. A death, the statement of life. How do we perceive this loss and how violent is one's coming of age? The cannibaism of the self. What was needed to sacrifice, and what to subtitute. The projections, the symbols, and the abuse in devouring all that which we feel in order to survive, and satisfy our hunger. Two parallel and completely seperate testimonies, which while at first glance don't converge, compose a motif of how a person perceives and faces a traumatic experience."

The goal of this project was to create a visual identity that would best fit the play's aesthetics, and have the potential to underline the duality in food (death vs life), as well as in one's nature, and furtherly symbolize the two protagonists and their testimonies.

For the wordmark I took a clean and almost sterilized approach, using rather rigid geometry, having the two O's halved and juxtaposed, as in the case of the heroes' testimonies and perspectives.

The colour palette for the whole project was restricted to just white and a soft dark tone, in order to further strengthen this duality, but also to strengthen the visual communication through the photographs used in the promotional material.

As the main visual element for the poster, I used the vertical version of the play's logo,

as a divider between the images of the protagonists. In contrast to this separation, the elements all work together in uniformity to bring to life the greek initial "Φ". The poster is predominately white, so that the viewer focuses on the relationship of these elements.
