‘An Other Life'
Bachelor Degree Final
As an immigrant from the United Kingdom, assimilating elements of New Zealand
society is a gradual process, a journey which I doubt will ever finish completely. Being a photography graduate, I have designed a photographic book showcasing my collective works that represent my explorations of New Zealand. I have ventured out and around the greater Wellington region, explored the South Island, including Nelson and Christchurch
to capture the unique aspects of New Zealand culture through the lens of an outsider or ‘other’. This photographic series is an investigation of the unusual, or unexpected elements of New Zealand society that I experience because of my ‘otherness’ or
newness to my surroundings. The design of the book seeks to reiterate the content
and experience of the photographs through pairings and pacing while at the same time, narrating my own evolution throughout my study of photography, my life since moving
to New Zealand and the everyday observations of an immigrant.
