With the ability to create a new self so easily, losing oneself through technology becomes common. People's presence on the internet can be anything they want, and then sometimes being even more important than their actual existence. Arises is the question of what is one's true self: is it what is projected through a monitor or what one truly experiences in real life? It is an action that is not always consciously taken and I find myself at times projecting my own desires through my digital presence. By misusing a scanner, a tool that digitizes actual objects, I have created digital bastardizations of my own image to represent the vast distortion of personas in this digital age. I wanted each piece to illustrate my image being pulled apart to separate ones making the overall image grotesque and hardly recognizable.
