Rabbit Steals Fire

Rabbit Steals Fire
Muscogee (Creek) Nation Legends
Folklore & Scared Stories
Rabbit Steals Fire is a project that involves editorial design, publication design, and four posters. The twenty-four page publication contains illustrations and typography in both English and Muscogee Creek language. The four posters are select pages from the publication, including, the back and front cover.

Rabbit Steals fire is one of the original legends, traditionally orally told, of the Muscogee tribe. I approached the Muscogee Creek Nation Department of Historic & Cultural Preservation for guidance regarding the original language and the traditional designs used throughout the culture. The department provided me with readings and source material for the project. The publication was created to be an illustrated book to attract the next generation.

The legends are a part of my heritage. Rabbit Steals Fire is to preserve a culture that is rapidly diminishing. The concept of creating a publication started to develop when I noticed the lack of design present in the literature. The publication is written in English and Muscogee Creek to revitalize the original language initially used and to communicate the story to the English reader. After approaching the Department of Historic & Cultural Preservation, the staff mentioned one of their major worries; the youth forgetting the culture altogether. Rabbit Steals Fire combats cultural loss by amending the absence of the culture of tangible representation
