DISAPPEARING CULTURES PROJECT
Sakai - Negrito in Thailand.

"The Sakai do not have any rights, they live in the forest"
(Thai settler woman)

The Sakai or Mani tribe live in the forested Banthad Mountains along the watershed between Satun, Pathalung and Trang Provinces in southern Thailand. Since the 1960s this area has experienced a dramatic expansion of tree crops, mainly rubber and more recently oil palm that has led to rapid forest clearance, road-building and forest colonisation.
The originally hunting-gatherers tribe today lives in the middle of the plantations. What will be the future, nobody knows it.
