1. Project Brief
This project was to create a brochure which effectively utilizes a grid and complies with all conventional rules of typography. I was asked to choose one student organization at A-State to create a brochure for and I picked Japanese Student Organization since I am very familiar with this organization.
2. My Concept
When I thought about Japan, immediately red and white came to my mind which are the color of Japanese flag. That is why I decided to go with red and white as my palette color. I made 10 different sketches for this project and picked the one which I thought works best.

3. My Process
I started collecting some inspiration from Pinterest and also gathering event pictures of Japanese Student Organization(JSO). I decided to use many pictures to help viewers to get idea of JSO's events visually in an easy way. Next, I put all the information of JSO such as its purpose, members, events and so on. I used the grids on Adobe InDesign to layout the elements effectively. Also, I created the JSO's logo by Adobe Illustrator. I print my brochure multiple times to see how it looks in person and made changes according to the actual piece. I printed the final version of my brochure and took professional photos.
4. Takeaways
What I learned from this project is the importance of printing each time I make changes on my design. I did not know even a small change will make a huge difference when it is actually printed. I also wanted to put more information for each JSO event but at the same time, I did not want the page to be too crowded. I learned it is a lot more difficult to layout enough amount of information and images on a brochure than I thought. Overall, it was very challenging and fun to create a brochure for an organization that I actually belong. I would like to try making different style of brochures in future.
