Ark Under The Stars

The Arc of Nebra or "Arche Nebra" is a museum based in Germany. The museum houses the oldest movable display of the night sky. The bronze plate with gold applications is about 4000 years old and shows the moon and several stars.

To set the architectural extraordinary building in the right context I worked on a concept to photograph the museum under the lights of stars. After half a year of planning for the right time I set out in early October 2018 to take the picture under the perfect conditions: cloud free sky, new moon that set early in the night and the milky way oriented in the right direction. It took 11 hours to complete the capturing process of this image. At the end of the shooting I had over 200 long exposures of the night sky and several images of the building to merge into one final frame. Now the real work started. To animate the falling stars I had to create about 100 individual frames with each having 50 layers for the meteors.

The result is a very special set of images the show this unique place in all of its beauty.
