A New Spin on Reusable Straws
2018
The world's first pocketable chewable reusable straw with a case to spin dry your straw for multiple uses through the day!
Introduction
We’ve always thought of buying reusable straws but never found one that quite met our needs. You always have to adjust to reusable straws, carrying them around by hand or in a fabric case that traps all that residual moisture, you have to purse your lip to shield your teeth every time you take a sip or try to reposition your straw. You should be able to enjoy your drink to the fullest, which is why we wanted to keep the sip of your drink of choice effortless and enjoyable while still letting you be Eco-friendly. CHEW features chewable tip designs to let you enjoy your drink without having to think each time you sip. At the same time, the case protects your straw and helps you dry spin your straw in a way you’ve never seen before, keeping your straw moisture free and clean.
We identified several problem areas that current reusable straw users face while they want to be Eco-friendly yet they're not having a holistic experience of using reusable straws. Most of them are fixed in length where the user has their straw sticking out of their pockets with or without a fabric case and other unsightly methods handling the straws on the go. Users have been rinsing their straws after drinking and clean it with a straw brush and try their best to flick out the remaining moisture but always facing the issue of their fabric cases absorbing the water and wetting the user's clothes or when they put it in their bags. Sometimes unable to clean them due to the lack of water points which lead to unhygienic ways of keeping their dirty straws.

Designed to be portable, breaking CHEW in two allows you to slip it into any pocket, while CHEW’s recycled plastic case aids you in easy assembly with a simple click.
Pocket your straw
Spin Dry
CHEW allows you to dry your reusable aluminum straw by giving it a spin. This means after a quick rinse and spin you’ll be able to keep your straw, moisture-free, in your bag or pocket. Though once you take it for a spin, I doubt you will want to stop.
Cutting Edge
Finally, for those still transitioning into an Eco-friendlier lifestyle, CHEW’s case has a small tip for you to cut a slit in the cover of your drink, allowing your straw to slide in smoothly into your cup.
Maintenance
We focused on improving the user journey of reusable straw drinkers. When the user isn't using the straw, CHEW can be kept it in the most compactable way. Maintenance; light cleaning without bringing out a straw brush by rinsing the straw under running water and spin drying it with the case on the go. Major cleaning of CHEW can be done at home with the straw brush when the user feels it is necessary. Making this much less problematic when they bring their chewable reusable straw out for a spin as well as an enjoyable experience going green.

Going through many rounds of ideation, prototyping and variations. After considering, what would be the simplest wildest way to dry a straw, we arrived at a new spin on things. Taking this as a starting point we designed a straw and case which would offer a fun way to redesign reusable straws.
We believe that it’s easy to be Eco-friendly, with the right tools. Wanting to do something for the environment, they considered how to make reusable straws more attractive for non-reusable straw users. And thus, CHEW was born.
