Demnitarul, mama si copilul (the politician, the mother and the child) is a multimedia journalism project dealing with the rate of infant mortality in Romania, the highest in the EU and one of the biggest in the world.
Following one family living in Viscri, one of the most attractive and visited Transilvanian villages, favored by H.R.H. The Prince of Wales himself, who has a house here, the project tries to look at the many factors that lead to such a bleak prognosis for rural families in one of the youngest European Union's member countries.
My role was to give a graphic look to the entire project, to insert the documentary film following one family from Viscri (made by Vlad Mixich and Laurentiu Diaconu Colintineanu and produced by Cristian Burtan Fleischer) and the subsequent interviews with authorities into an intuitive interface and also to illustrate the statistics into a series of clear infographics.
We decided to construct the scene of a typical baptisal ritual in Romania where the newborn child chooses a few objects from a tray, symbolically "choosing" his future career. The visitor is invited to choose themselves, each object revealing one infographic and a video dealing with an aspect of this complex issue: the statistics, the financing, the healthcare system, the corruption which may influence their newborn's future.
