Capitães da Areia
Redesign do livro Capitães da Areia, de Jorge Amado, feito para a aula de Produção Gráfica II na Unesp. O enredo conta a história de um grupo de meninos que moram nas ruas de Salvador e retrata não só seus assaltos e atitudes violentas, mas também seus desejos e pensamentos ingênuos, inerentes à qualquer criança, e sua marginalização pela sociedade. O principal ponto, foi trazer um projeto gráfico que conversasse de forma mais íntima com a história e a narrativa do livro.
A capa foi pensada para refletir a história da forma mais abstrata possível. O degradê do amarelo para o azul, representa a praia e o mar (ambos lugares importantes na história) e a textura do papel da capa trazem a aspereza tanto da praia como da narrativa. As pequenas ilustrações de capoeiristas mostram a importância do jogo na história, e a fonte principal (Brasilêro) revela um pouco mais sobre a história.
O capítulo "Cartas à Redação", que possui cartaz enviadas por moradores da cidade ao jornal, foi diagramado de forma que lembrasse um jornal. Ele contém cartas enviadas ao jornal pelos moradores da cidade e descrições de cada uma no final de cada carta.
Book redesign of Capitães da Areia, by Jorge Amado, for a graphic production class at Unesp. The plot tells the story of a group of boys who live on Salvador's streets and portrays not only their assaults and violent attitude, but also their desires and naive thoughts, inherent in any child, and their marginalization in society. The main point was to create a graphic project that spoke more intimately with the story and the narrative of the book.
The cover was designed to reflect some of the book's story in the most abstract way possible. The gradient from yellow to blue represents the beach and the sea (both important settings in the story) and the cover paper's texture is meant to portray roughness both of the beach and the narrative itself. The little illustrations of capoeiristas show the importance of the game to the plot, and the main font (Brasilerô) tells a little bit more about the story.
The chapter "Letters to the Editor" was designed to look like a newspaper. It contains letters sent to the newspaper by locals and descriptions of each one at the end of each letter.
