Guest Speaker Write Up - Daniel Regan
The final guest photographer who came to talk to us was Daniel Regan, his work revolves around his mental health and his experiences with it aiming to bring more light on to a very popular topic in todays culture.

At first he was introduced as a health and wellbeing photographer, and I immediately thought about advertising for health services such as NHS or Gyms so I wasn’t that bothered, then he started to actually tell his story and I was hooked.

His story of his stay in a psychiatric ward was inspiring for me as I suffer greatly from mental health and have done since I was 15, I’m now 22.
As he went on I found that I could relate more and more to him, the medication he had been on I’ve also been on; I know what it’s like to be in A&E from being so bad that you’re actively trying to harm yourself.
I’ve often thought about turning my thoughts, dreams and nightmares, hallucinations into photographs but never done anything about it.
He made me think about how I’m viewed from a clinician’s point of view, what do they see? A person or the conditions?

It also gave me hope that I can learn how to cope with my conditions and live a full life, he inspired me for my shoot that we are working on in ‘ In the studio’ with Vice magazine; having said this it did hit a bit too close to home for me, so hit a nerve and I got quite upset meaning I had to leave early.
