For this Project, I had to make a 3-poster series on a known social issue and give voice on that said social issue. While also doing research on a Graphic designer of our choice and try to make the project similar to their style while also adding our own style to it.What I was given to do was Gay Marriage /LGTBQ, and the Graphic designer I chose to research was Stefan Sagmeister.
What I plan on doing with the LGBTQ social issue, is to show what they are about, and that is being proud of who you are not matter what people think, loving others for who they are, and show what they go through in life being ridiculed, and hated for their for trying to be themselves. And why I chose Stefan, is because his art-style goes with what I am trying to do.
The image below is my Image board and research
These next few images are sketches I thought of for the project, to get an idea on where to go, and what works, and what doesn't.
These three are images are for promoting no hate, and try to love others for who they are.
These three are about self love, and spreading that love to others who might need it.
These three I like, they're more about a rally type feel, where the LGBTQ will do what the signs's say, they won't be silent anymore, they will fight for hate and for love.
Here's another Idea that I think has potential, where if I filled these in with the right colors and backgrounds, it can feel like a strong message.
These three I was going for more of a sassy type feel, I'm kinda on the fence on this whether to use for the final or not.
For these pics, my idea was to show what many people of the LGBTQ go through their lives, where they are bombarded with insults and death treats, etc...
These three pics are showing more on the gay marriage side, and that love is love not matter the gender you are. And I chose to make a sunset for this one, to give a warm and comfort feeling like how love feels.
These pics I chose more on what happiness looks like if we just let it happen, (And yes I know I spelled Happiness wrong, I just realized that until know). How love can trample hate, and that love, acceptance, and happiness can spread across the world.
Update:For the posters here are the first three that I thought of. And what I was going for was more of a rally type poster.
After I got some feed back from some of my colleges, I decided to go simple and typography. That way when people look at these, they know it's an event made from LGBT community.
Final: When getting some feedback again from my colleges, they liked the new approach I had, but also liked the idea of the sign rally I had in my first three posters, and asked me to try and mix them together. From the critique, I added a grey background with a stick to make more like a sign, and also added footprints to give that march feeling.
