My piece, "Dragon," is a clear representation of and interpretation of my dragon sculpture (see final picture). I used HB, 4H, and 4B pencils to create highlights, mid-tones, and weighted lines. I attempted to create shapes without using definite lines in order to make the picture look more realistic. I used a variety of shading techniques such as cross-hatching, contour shading, and hatching to replicate and recreate the texture of the real object. I tried to keep the picture as close to the real deal as possible.

The title, "Dragon," helps to give a clear explanation of what the picture is describing for those who can not tell. This dragon is based off a medieval, Swedish style model dragon that was given to me by a family friend. It is important to me because it reminds me of them and the good times we had. I also find this model interesting as not many people have seen something like it before, provoking me to creating this.

Through this piece I intend to instill an appreciation for historic art. I appreciate different forms of art as well as history and this combined my interests. I also wanted to show the importance of friendship. As mentioned above, this model that the piece is based off of was given to me by a family friend. Whenever I look at it, I think of all the good times we have had together. This creates a happiness that cannot be found anywhere else.

I feel like I was very successful in creating this piece; it looks good and it makes me proud. I would change the blank background so that it could have shading. I feel like this change could've provided greater contrast. The main thing that held me back was my work ethic. I took a lot of time doing other things rather than focusing on this project, potentially hindering the its success. This is another thing that I would change.
