Uncommon Creative: The Handbook for Unicorns is my first book. I have been a professional web developer and brand identity designer for 10 years. As a self taught Unicorn, I have had many challenges over the years in learning to code, design, work with clients, and manage a business. This book is the story of my journey as a self-employed creative web developer.

One of my main goals in writing this book is to help shine a light on the work of women in technology and the arts. I believe that there is beauty in diversity. I believe in the power of our dreams. Through my work and writing, I hope to inspire women and minorities to pursue careers in creative technology.

This book includes my best practices for developing a digital portfolio, developing the skill set of a Unicorn, and my strategy for getting project bids approved. I also explore the history of the creative Web, and offer my thoughts on where we are headed.

I wrote, researched, edited, and designed this book. I am currently running a Kickstarter to support its first print run (see link below images). I chose to self-publish because I wanted to retain full creative control of this book. Rather than write a traditional design book, I chose to create a dream world with the imagery. My artwork is inspired by science fiction authors and films of the 1960's-1970's.
