Breast cancer is cancer that develops from breast tissue. Signs of breast cancer may include a lump in the breast, a change in breast shape, dimpling of the skin, fluid coming from the nipple, a newly inverted nipple, or a red or scaly patch of skin. In those with distant spread of the disease, there may be bone pain, swollen lymph nodes, shortness of breath, or yellow skin.
Many men may be surprised to learn that they can get breast cancer. Although breast cancer in men is uncommon, it is important to know the risks factors, as well as the signs and symptoms, of the disease. Advances in breast cancer treatment mean many men today can expect to beat the disease when detected early.
It’s important for all women to check their breasts for changes on a regular basis.

Step 1
Start by looking at your breasts in a mirror. As outlined above,
you should be looking out for any changes to the breast including lumps, swelling or anything unusual.
Step 2
Raise your hands over your head and check again for any irregularities.
Step 3
Check your nipples for any leaking fluid; this could be a watery, milky or yellow fluid or blood.
Step 4
Lie down and feel your breasts. Use your left hand to feel the right breast and vice versa. Make sure you feel the entire breast, from your collarbone to the top of your abdomen and from your armpit to your cleavage.
Step 5
Examine your breasts again, but this time stand up or sit down. Some women find it easiest to check their breasts in the shower; find out what works best for you.
Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM), is an annual international health campaign organized by major breast cancer charities every October to increase awareness of the disease and to raise funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. The campaign also offers information and support to those affected by breast cancer.
