These giant copper maple leaves were hammer formed from thick sheet metal. The shaping process is called repousse and chasing. Repousse is the technique of creating relief in sheet metal by pushing out from the back side of the design. Chasing is forming by pushing down from the front side. This sculpture of 5 leaves was commissioned as part of a public art project in Charlotte NC. Filled solid with cement.
