King Neptune, Paul DiPasquale, 2005
Capturing the energy of the Virginia Beach boardwalk was difficult, even as an ex-native. It's hard to describe the feel of approaching this mammoth bronze statue as you walk towards it. The sculptor, Paul DePasquale, created the work in 2005.
During the initial sketches, I pursued a more realistic aesthetic that was similar to the original sculpture. Ultimately I chose a more 'cartoony' vibe with geometric shapes to construct the body of King Neptune.
