As the Chronicler for the Barony of Western Seas under the SCA name of Sadhbh inghean Ui Chonghail, I made the official newsletter of the group which is distributed digitally via WesternSeas.org. When I took over from the last chronicler, I had to rebuild the newsletter from scratch as I do not own a Mac anymore - all of the previous files were built on that platform.
To be able to keep the files as editable as possible, I chose to use Open Source software on the rebuild. The applications I used:
-- Scribus - desktop publishing similar to InDesign and Quark
-- GIMP - image editing much like Photoshop
-- InkScape - vector drawing much like Illustrator
I was honored in 2017 with a William Blackfox Awards commendation for a special edition of the Runestone produced in 2016 celebrating 50 years of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). You can view the entire issue online here.
