About The Project
From 1st of November 2015, the specialist health service in Norway was required to notify Helfo as soon as possible if they wont be able to meet the legal deadline for when health care is to be provided at the latest. This follows from Section 2-2 of the Patient and User Rights Act. The same applies if the time of attendance has to be changed so that the time limit can not be held. For this project we developed the web application Fristbruddportalen, which handles the notification and case management of such cases.
My role as an Interaction Designer was to work closely with their development team and make sure that the application was intuitive and simple to use. I was also in charge of the graphic design and making sure that it aligned with Helsedirektoratets public brand.
The main challenge of the project was to increase the number of cases processed by Helfo, in turn resulting in more patients getting the required health care in time. We would do this by creating a new version of the Fristbruddportal, and improve the workflow and communication between Helfo, the specialist health services and private health service providers.
We conducted user interviews and observed how they managed different cases using the tools they already had. We also had regular demos with the user representatives and client to get feedback and learn more from them.
During the design and sketching phase we mostly tested using simple guerilla methods on both paper and InVision. In later stages there was done testing in lab as well.
Sketching & Prototyping
For sketching and prototyping, we used a lot of paper, in addition to Sketch and InVision. We also created Design Guidelines base on Material Design and Helsedirektoratets public design profile.
