Timetables Dublin Bus

New timetables and bus stops were central to the redesign of the Dublin Bus information system. Information was re-organised and prioritised and new timetables now feature route destinations rather departure termini. Considerable emphasis was given to legibility throughout the project and all non-accessible design elements were removed such as use of italics and restrictive font sizes. Timetables were re-organised to read left to right rather than top to bottom, which is more intuitive for the user. An increased number of frequency based timetables was also introduced to provide the customer with more relevant information than the predominant departure based method.

Another primary aspect of the project involved the removal of many of the carousel based bus stops around the city and the introduction of Trueform stops. These new bus stops offer far greater areas for display and allowed for the development of linear maps to display route information which enables passengers to determine the correct bus for their destination and where on the route their stop is located. These maps, coupled with the redesigned timetables offer customers the information they need, where they need it, to reach their final destination.

Again, accessibility was a key factor in the redesign of bus stops. Route numbers are displayed clearly in large font, in white text out of black lozenges on all panels. The Trueform flags also incorporate a tiling system which allows the routes serving each stop to be clearly displayed and to be seen from a considerable distance.
