CONSERVATION TALES
Identity Design and Book Design

Conservation Tales is a book series written for grades 3 through 5. The purpose of the series is to encourage children to take action in conserving wildlife because caring for animals and their environment starts early. This series helps children understand the science behind wildlife conservation while discovering potential careers and experiencing inquiry-based science activities at home.
SOLUTION:
In order to reach our target audience and promote our series, the main objective was to create a cohesive identity and brand for the series. Conservation Tales is an adventure for children, but also a source of information to help teachers and members in various communities learn about conservation. Templates were created for the books to make these easy to read and look visually pleasing. A new identity and brand created cohesion for the project. Promotional materials were also created to advertise and market our project.
STAGE ONE: IDENTITY DEVELOPMENT
In the first stage of the project, a new identity system was established. The new identity promotes adventure with birds flying into and out of the book. With three of the new books incorporating sea animals, our author wanted a logo to promote manatees, seahorses, and sea turtles. A special rendition of the logo was created in order to promote the next three books in the series and to also promote our own adventure.

BOOK DEVELOPMENT AND PUBLISHING
The team uses the research we have gathered to produce children books. The illustrators establish characters that match with the author's vision. The author develops the story line and explains where he sees illustrations verses photographs. As the designer, I am given all the materials to format and layout the book. Once they are published, we do outreach programs for schools and the community to promote wildlife conservation. Activities are created to help children understand how they can help make a difference.
MANATEE MATCH PACKAGING
Manatee Match is a matching card game that teaches children how scientists identify manatees based on their scars from past injuries. Manatee match was designed for Conservation Tales as a new product to help educate children about manatees.
PROMOTIONS AND OUTREACH EVENTS
Our team focuses on outreach programs and advertising for our series. We travel to schools and the community to promote wildlife conservation. Our team travels with our promotional materials to educate others about how they can make a difference and impact in their own communities.
