by using the most appropriate medium, every place will feel the need to remember, unveiling its very own deepest nature"

Memory recollection is a floor installation starting form small detail in the place where it began.

An object or a detail marking the place where the installation is specifically intended to start from, is chosen, “site specific”.

In this particular case, as the installation was created in the Accademia Ligustica di Belle Arti in Genoa (College of fine arts), I started from a detail of a stucco decoration inside the room of Decoration.

This detail was recast with modern technique (an App on my smartphone) to create a mould.

The mould was then printed with the traditional techniques of frottage, linoleography and embossing, on various kinds of paper.

Several paper “tiles” were then cut and put on the floor, sometimes overlapping, to create the installation.

This artwork aims, in a very direct way, to allow the soul of the place where it is created to express and show itself.

It is memory recast by the contemporary.

It is tradition that communicates silently.

The artist Anna Icardi began her career as a decorator and intends to let the medium express itself through the artwork.

She gets her inspiration by simple and minimalist artworks, as Carl Andrè’s floor sculptures, and she explores and provokes human emotions, influenced by artworks such as Alighiero Boetti’s maps and Felix Gonzales Torres’s candy carpets.
