A DISCOURSE ON EATING HABITS
Conceptual recipe book

Many young people who move out for the first time need some help in the kitchen - they might lack experience, or have trouble managing their shopping and cooking time, amongst other things. We designed a conceptual recipe book that targets such young adults, but with a twist: it’s not only for people who have absolutely no idea where to start, it also serves to help them realise some of the factors that go into making any sort of decision concerning food. With a bit of irony and humour, it highlights why they might find themselves making poor food choices in their everyday lives. The editorial is a mix of tongue-in-cheek recipes and introductions to topics, but also in-depth and scientific details regarding our eating behaviours and food choices. Some of these determinants include our cultural and social context, our psychology, education and biology.

In order to visually communicate this duality of dry theoretical content and humour, we paired a calculated grid-based typography with line art reminiscent of technical illustrations, topped off with collages for each chapter. The focus was to picture the relationship between people and food, and the context in which they make all their different food choices. The recipes are removable from the book, so that they might be easily used while cooking, without fear of the editorial itself getting damaged.
