#2 Principles of Gestalt

In Project Two for my design 2D class at Johnson County Community College, my goal was to use typography/letterforms to create a series of compelling compositions that clearly illustrated each of the four gestalt grouping laws: similarity, proximity, continuance and closure. Here is a link to my inspiration and design process.

Below each one of my designs you will find a definition of the Gestalt principles summarized in my own words.
Similarity: Elements of the same size, shape, color, orientation, etc that we see as belonging together.
Proximity: Grouping closer together elements in order to separate them from farther apart elements. Something that creates a sense of depth or distance.
Continuance: When our eye follows an element such as a line or curve from one object to another.
Closure: When our mind is able to fill in gaps in order to complete the whole picture or idea.
