kampar art gallery

'The intention of this project is to design an art gallery + workshop, inspired by the unique site at Kampar, Perak, Malaysia. It's located beside an ex-mining lake featured with an old steel dredge, currently opened for public to explore. This art center hold functions for local artists, to present different form of art. The design project inspired by a photograph taken on the steel dredge's metal deck, showing a strong contrast between nature and man-made. Directing this project towards a study of action and reaction.'
'The art center designed to react naturally to the sunlight. Azimuth, Altitude and VSA of the sun were collected and used as a reference to design the building's space and facade.'
'Existing steel dredge was anchored beside the ex-mining lake, surrounded by new paving for public.'
'Rust treatment concrete, weathering steel and weatherproof steel are the main materials for this center, to create similar steel dredge's mood and ambience on the site.'
