PUCOLJ! A board game about recycling.

INTRODUCING PUCOLJ! (RECYCLE!)

Recycle! is a unique board game which helps to adopt the basics of recycling household waste. It focuses the players interest on the environment while learning through playing.

Designing this game was a real challenge. I had this image in my head to impart an important message, and to only use eco-friendly or natural materials. I also wanted to create a game that impresses people at all ages, so families can enjoy it all together at the same time.

The final board game is made with the use of paper, wood and organic cotton - drawn, cut and put together by hand. Using only colored pencils I was able to stay close to a more traditional look, strengthening the game's natural ambiance.

Rule boards • 2 dice • 3 "small flower" board pieces • 3 "big flower" board pieces (with a total of 36 tiles) • 4 meeples • 4 cards - 1 for each meeple • 15 wooden fences • 45 cards of different wastes • 50 collectible tokens of different leaves • and 1 string bag with 3 pouches as packaging.

To me, the number of elements was one of the main factors to consider when thinking about the rules. As a child I loved board games that used several different items, so sticking with those memories I designed quite a few of them into my own game to guarantee the lucky-factor and a fast-paced play. These also help the players to take count of their actions and keep everyone's attention throughout the whole game. The board itself too is reusable as the players can create their own board when mixing and reassembling its parts.

Recycle! can be played by 2 to 4 players and takes around 30-60 minutes depending on the number of participants. One dice is to take steps, the other indicates special actions that can bring both good or bad luck. The game ends when a player collects a certain amount of tokens.
