Parking Structure Restorative

Parking Structure Adaptive Re-Use

Prompt: Re-use and re-adapt a parking attendant's kiosk using a bathing tradition/restoration as your inspiration.

I used the Russian Banya as my source of inspiration to re-use and re-model this parking kiosk.

Traditionally, a Russian Banya includes a place to change, a shower, and a steam room. My final Model includes enough space to do all three within the structure.

The Cardboard represents cedarwood traditionaly used, and the aluminum represents the existing parking structure's metal.

The curves of the wooden form represent nature and ease as they transition you from each space. The aluminum reflects the city environment. I wanted to create a space that secluded the inhabitant from the stresses of the everyday work/city environment and gave them a place to relax and restore.

Possible areas I want to research further would be lighting built in discretely for the night time, aromatherapy, as well as music throughout the space to further enhance the atmosphere.

I wanted to research different "gestures" of my floor plan that would create a smooth transition from the entranceway to the rest of the space.

I also wanted to research how the light would hit the floor with a slight gap between the floor and the outside structure
