Screen Printed Shirts

A series of screen printed shirts made with hand drawn photo-positives and cut rubylith patterns. Each is 2 layers, and inspired by insects, specifically bees, tarantulas, and mantids.
Screen printed 2-layer bee shirt. With 2 different screens, one with the honeycomb pattern, and one with the bee pattern, I randomly printed all over the fabric with bronze/gold and dark purple water-based ink.
Close-ups of bees and honeycombs.
Hand drawn photopositive on tracing paper of a tarantula, and a small cricket. I wanted the tarantula to curl around the wearer's side, with a little cricket hidded on the opposite hip (hiding from the spider).
Close-up of tarantula and little red cricket.
I wanted to make a shirt dedicated to one of my favorite insects, the Devil's Flower Mantis, or scientifically Idolomantis diabolica. The red underlayer is made of drawings on tracing paper and cut rubylith, and the mantis is drawn on tracing paper and printed in denim colored ink.
A close-up of the mantid's face. You can see here how the denim colored ink is slightly transparent.
The shirts all together in a playful and bright pallette. (Special thanks to my boyfriend Scott for modeling)
