Vulnerability of Dental Veneers
Most of you would have the idea what dental veneers are. They provide great value when it comes to improving the appearance of front teeth. These veneers typically last for 15 – 20 years. However, you cannot make them stay attached to your teeth for a lifetime because they are meant to stay for this long.
What are veneers made of?
Here, you may wonder about the materials used in the preparation of veneers. Generally, porcelain or resin composite materials are used in the making of dental veneers. Veneers can be of different colors. So, you don’t have to worry about proper matching because there is going to be a range from which you can pick your color.
Way veneers are attached
The attachment process of veneers starts with the etching of tooth enamel in small amount. The etching is for the purpose of avoiding tooth to look bulky and to make the tooth get hold of the veneer. Hence, this process also involves roughening of the tooth. The process of veneer application completes in two dental visits. During first dental visit, the tooth is etched and the measurement is taken. Veneers are applied during second dental visit after the veneers are prepared. While your permanent veneers are prepared, you will be given temporary ones. Those will be replaced by the permanent ones. Dental cement is used to ensure adhesion. And special curing light is used for the hardening of that cement.
What kind of veneers is the best one?
Typically, you can go for the porcelain veneer because it can last quite longer with normal dental care. This type of veneers is the expensive one. One thing that you need to keep in mind is that there is no way to fix these veneers if they break or crack.
Another type of veneer that you can get is made of the composite resin. These are the least expensive veneers you can get. Composite resin is the plastic like material and it doesn’t last as long as the porcelain veneers do. However, you can get them fixed easily if they break or crack due to any reason.
While you may tend to think that porcelain can be the best option for you, it is important to get a word from the dentist. You can visit the dentist and discuss different options about veneer application.
