This illustration comes as a result of a conversation between my friends as we were on the beach, lounging under a parasol.

We observed the bodies around us and we wondered why we are being judged by our hair that grows naturally between armpits and ankles. Why every 'imperfection' makes us feel inadequate and forced into a body we want to hide. Why we have to be ashamed of being part of a physiological cycle that connects us to nature and why we have to hide our sexual drive when it doesn't have the purpose of reproduction.

There does not seem to be a single answer and the debate is still open. In the meantime, four different bodies lie crowding such little space surrounded by 'What Women Hide'.

Not Safe for Women is a collaborative project curated by the ladies working at the italian creative studio ILLO as part of the Ladies, Wine and Design initiative, a series of events inspired by the NYC-based designer Jessica Walsh with the aim of empowering women working in the creative business in more than 180 cities all over the world.
