Carnival & Festival Event Promotion Campaign

Carnival & Festival
Event Promotion Campaign
An event promotion project that includes poster, flyer, banner, and pandora ad designs.
I chose to design a small advertising campaign for the second annual “SD West Coast Multicultural Carnival and Festival”, hosted by the Caribbean Association, INC. The event will take place on August 11, 2018 and be held near San Diego County Credit Union Stadium. My design targets people of West Indian or Hispanic/African decent. I want to bring in ages 15 to about 40 years. The goal I set to accomplish was to take the typical Caribbean poster and make it a bit more “classy” and family friendly.
Carnival Girl’s are no doubt the main attraction of Carnival with their captivating headdresses and skimpy clothing that serve the purpose of holding the audience’s attention. Despite this, the stigma within the Caribbean community is that you need to portray these girls in a overly sexual manner because of their revealed skin still stands.

I wanted to break out of that stereotype. I used a girl in typical carnival wear, but I chose to display her face and not her body. I wanted to bring attention to her joyous smile and I wanted her line of sight to appear as if she is looking at you. Almost daring you to join her in the festivities. I feel this was the best way to captivate all ages and genders.
Hardest challenge by far was the text. I had gorgeous pictures and a colorful palette, but the background was too powerful, the text wasn’t legible. I decided to frame the bottom with a dark (not black) color to balance all the bright colorful text solving that problem almost instantaneously.

I utilized several different advertisement platforms with both print and digital design. Flyers, banners, and even a Pandora ad. My thought process is that we live in the digital age and encounter a high percentage of our ads from the Internet.
