Little Red Riding Hood Illustration

For the concept and illustration of "Little red riding hood" written by the Brothers Grimm, I focussed on a traditional painting appearance with fairytale atmosphere.
The wolf as a symbol of evil and lust is only shown as a shadow. He represents the dark part, that is reflected on a tree. The tree can be seen as symbol of life. The wolf is a result and opposite of bright light, being there and not there at the same time.

Little Red lives in a destructive atmosphere with an over-protective mother, not really able to develop her own character, always obeying her mothers demands. I chose kind of religious style for her. The dress and her shape are influenced by paintings of Mary. With tension she holds her three flowers: faith, hope and love.
The wolf came into her life when she started to grow up. He was a temptation, who changed her view and let her pass a different way through the dangerous woods.
