ONCE UPON A TIME...
Heaven's Palace Concepts for a Chinese romantic comedy.
Based on the fantasy novel Three Lives Three Worlds,
I was task to design a palace up in the clouds for the gods to live in. Obviously, if its heaven's, regular rules need not to apply, meaning that I first had a lot of fun with floating and impossible structures. In the end the client kept asking for something more and more traditional so we ended up with the last version; an assembly of Chinese architecture from Tang Dynasty.
A lot of it was cut in the end, but we can still see the cloud columns from my sketches and the columns that didn't touch the ground in the final movie.
