BOARDGAME | VAN MOND TOT KONT

VAN MOND TOT KONT

Is the dutch translation for 'from mouth to butt', a sentence often referred to Crohn's disease.
Crohn’s disease causes inflammation in part of your digestive system. Crohn's can affect any part of it, but most often it affects your small intestine and colon.

I designed this board game for children who suffer from this disease. Imagine that if when you get the diagnose as an adult, it already leaves a huge impact, let alone children. This games helps them visualize the disease in a playful manner. Most games that I came across that were about Crohn's disease had nothing to do with the disease at all (a teddy bear, for example) or were so minimalistic that I couldn't imagine it was supposed to be for children. So I had to come up with something different.

The concept is that after the doctor gives the diagnose to the child, they receive this board game when they leave.
They can play the game afterwards with their parents at home to help them understand what they are going through or what's to come. They can also play the game with their siblings, so they also understand what is happening with their brother or sister. And imagine that they also are have to miss class a bunch of time to go to the hospital for check ups and suchs. Their classmates maybe have no idea what is going on with their classmate and what the disease is. So they can bring the game to school and play with their classmates to help them understand why they miss a bunch of classes.

The board game is designed with some information and humour,
because we don't have to make it a lot worse than it already is.

The board game contains the following:

- A cardboard board with illustrations of the colon.
- A 'poopmeter' to count the + or - you get whenever you receive a card. You can change the location of your 'turd' and when you finish the game you can see exactly what all the windfall and setbacks did to your poop.
- Two sets of cards 'windback' and 'setback'.
For example one says that you have to take your medicine (+). The other one says that you lose weight (-).
- Pawns that show different kind of food (made with a 3D printer).
- Four turds to move around on your poopmeter.
- And at last a piece of paper with the information you need about how to play the game and the scores that you need when you finish (poopmeter).
