Sunday Nation of Islam leader Minster Louis Farrakhan delivered the keynote address during Union Temple Baptist Church's Men's Day celebration. Reviving the Spirit of the Million Man March was this year's theme.
The photographs in this essay were taken outside the walls of Union Temple in Washington, D.C. as a reminder of the unbridled soul force of the 1995 Million Man March on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol. Nearly 25 years later, and it still reverberates.
Ms. Ayanna Gregory exemplified this during her tribute to the late D.C. mayor Marion Barry and her father the late civil rights activist Dick Gregory, both were speakers at the Million Man March. Her rendition of Stevie Wonder's I'll be Loving You brought the audience to its feet. Minister Farrakhan was so moved that tears streamed down his cheeks.
