For this university assignment, I decided to create a series of puzzle boxes inspired by tutorials I have read from the web.
I wanted to have a brand that has the same identity and feel as jewellery and watch companies in order to tap into the upscale adult market which was something that I discovered that puzzle makers were lacking. The boxes were designed using Illustrator and produced using laser cutting and etching.

About Marcenas and Co.
Marcenas and Co. was started in 1876 by Leonora Marcenas, the widow of Don Rafael Marcenas, a prominent craftsman in Madrid. Her husband was known not only for creating timeless pieces of furniture but also puzzle boxes which was inspired by the theft of his wife’s belongings. Even after a century, their family continued the tradition and made these unique pieces that their name eventually became known for.

CAUSE RELATED MARKETING

Marcenas and Co. intends to partner with Global Education Fund, an organisation focused on removing obstacles to education in three high-need countries: Kenya, India and Guatemala. Global Education Fund has stayed true to its founding principles – listen to local needs, work collaboratively to provide resources that can be leveraged in a sustainable way, and share innovative models for educating children living in poverty. Today, Global Education Fund provides small, multi-year grants and other support to education entrepreneurs and their initiatives. Global Education Fund expanded its program to encompass projects in 22 countries. In addition to books, Global Education Fund also helped build libraries, literacy centers, scholarships and leadership programs. To raise the funds supporting their cause, Marcenas and Co. intends to sell a limited edition item for a set period of time.

Marketing Proposal – How the partnership works

Limited Edition Items
In order to raise funds, Marcenas and Co. will design and produce one limited edition puzzle that is unique to this campaign. Branding and campaign material such as an alternate packaging, web banners, compliment slips, will be also produced to tie in with the campaign. The entire limited edition marketing campaign will last 2 Nov 2018 – 2 Dec 2018 and 70% of all funds raised from sales will be donated to the Global Education fund to further their cause.

Promoting the campaign will be carried out through social media platforms only in the aim of being more environmentally conscious. In addition, Marcenas and Co. will utilise an alternate brand image that incorporates the identity of Global Education Fund. This will also be carried out to the other marketing collateral throughout the campaign. However, as part of a strict brand guidelines, the marriage of the two brands need to be in a ratio of 60 / 40 with predominant focus on Marcenas and Co. brand image. Lastly, the limited edition item is to be accessed via web links and in the website for the duration of the campaign. The item will be taken off the site at 2 Dec 2018 at 12:00pm.
