LESS OF ME
CD COVER DESIGN | THUMBNAILS FOR SOCIAL MEDIA

I love designing!

When someone asks me what my specialty is or what I enjoy doing most, it is a very difficult question to answer. Designing for a musician was one of those moments when you realise not everything is about corporate branding. Branding is fun but nothing beats getting an open brief and creative freedom.

'Less of Me' was one of those projects. I was fortunate enough to work for a part-time Christian musician who writes his own songs, grabs a seat in a studio and works with a small team who transforms his writings into a final product. My client does not plan on being the next Chris Daughtry but he loves music and is really passionate about writing songs about his faith.

I was very excited to work on this project as it was an industry I had never worked with before. The client typed up the brief in an email stipulating that I must read the lyrics of the song and produce an image that he could make into a CD cover and use as thumbnails on iTunes and Youtube. I knew immediately what I wanted to do once I read the lyrics, (can be read below).

I used Photoshop for this entire design, taking an image of a man and creating a dispersion effect on the photograph. The final image I wanted to create was one that explained the title clearly. The song indicates that he wants to be less of himself and more like God. The dispersion effect resembles the man becoming less of himself through faith.
I had fun designing for Nu Journey and giving their song an identity. I would love to work with them again and/or other musicians.
